Cayucos Murals
Have you ever viewed the artwork that beautify the walls around the town of Cayucos?
According to the Cayucos Mural Society's Mural Tour Map (as reproduced below), there are nine prominent murals for our enjoyment.

My personal favorites are the following four murals that are posted around Cayucos School and Birch Avenue:-
# 1 Murals by Cayucos School
(1a) Cayucos Scene -
Size: 15 x 7 feet - Artist/Date: School children, 1989 
(1b) Community of Imagination -
Size: 6 x 12 feet Artist/Date: third, fourth and fifth graders, 2001 
(1c) Creatures of Life -
Size: 8 x 8 feet
Artist/Date: kindergarten, first and second graders, 2001 
(1d) What Is Real - Size: 8 x 12 feet Artist/Date: 6th, 7th and 8th graders, 2001 
# 2 Carousel can be found at Birch
Avenue at B Street, by Cayucos Elementary School. The mural measuring
33 x 10 feet long, is on an exterior wall facing Hardie Park.
(2) Carousel -
Artist/Date: Cuesta Painting Class, 1994 
# 3 Cayucos: a Mosaic Sculpture Honoring Indigenous People
At B
Street by Birch Avenue (right in front of the swimming pool) and across
from Hardie Park is a 35 x 45 feet tiled sculpture that's produced by
the following artists:
Artist/Date: Peter Ladochy, 1999
Master Tile-Setter: Roy Pope
Architect: Ruel Czach
Concrete Work: Marc Eisemann
Handprint Tiles: Richard Rowe

#4 Butter & Steamer Day at Cass's Cayucos Landing
This 40 by 8 feet mural was created by Art Musso in 1994. Today, it remain an icon on the side of Cayucos Surf Shop by Ocean Avenue and Cayucos Drive. 
# 5 Reproduction of 13 Famous Western Paintings
If
you visit the Old Cayucos Tavern at 180 N. Ocean Avenue, be sure to
check out Grady Houser's 1980's reproduction of the 13 murals ranging in
size from 6'x 8' to 8'x 22'. Also represented are paintings by
Frederic Remington.

Above
is a copy of a painting by Charles M. Russell (in 1909), reproduced as a
mural by Grady F. Houser in 1987. The painting titled "In Without
Knocking", measures approx. 8' x 12'.

Shown
above are murals by Grady in 1987, depicting copies of paintings by
Frank McCarthy titled "Along the Stream" and "Packing In". These differ
in size on left at approximately 7'x 10', and on right at approximately
7'x 6'. # 6 Delivery at the Cottage Hotel
The
20' x 20' mural by John Meng (1993) can be found along the south side
of Way Station , at 180 N. Ocean Ave before Hoppe's Restaurant was
established.

# 7 Cayucos Blacksmith
Previously, there used to be a hardware store at
36 N. Ocean Ave, and this is where you could find a 10 x 10 feet mural
on the south side of Ocean Ave. The mural titled, "Cayucos Blacksmith"
was produced by artist, Joanna Spinoa in 1994.

# 8 Underwater scene of "Cave of Mysteries"
The
"Cave of Mysteries' can be found along Ocean Ave. & 3rd St, in the
Cayucos Supermarket parking lot. The mural measuring 50 x 10 feet, is
produced by artists, Alan Riggle in 1993. 
#9 The following "Ocean Wave" could
be found at 38 Twenty-fourth St., at the private residence garage door
of artist, Alan Riggle. This mural measuring 16 x 7 feet was produced
in 1993.

10 Last by not least, is the combined efforts of local artists and
volunteers to make the walls of the public toilet look beautiful :
