Growth is inevitable, even in the small town of Cayucos, with 3,000 population.  One impending huge development is being proposed at the junction of Ocean Boulevard and Old Creek Road in South Cayucos, east of Highway One: a neighborhood that is primarily residential.  The development - a first in this part of town - will include a three-storey commercial building/complex with four condominiums, 17-room hotel, retail spaces and a underground carpark   Many residents are alarmed and concerned at the character of the project and the increase in traffic, noise, pollution, pedestrian safety, water and sewage, and commercial/parking issues that will be brought about if the project is approved.

The "Concerned Citizens of Cayucos" who oppose the project and want the project downsized, have secured more than 500 petition signatures to support their concerns to the Cayucos Advisory Council at the meeting held on April 4, '07.  More petition signatures are being gathered. The Cayucos Advisory Council did not oppose the project as it did not violate any land-use laws. Nonetheless, at the April 4th meeting, the Council encouraged any opponents to submit their concerns after the environment al review is made, which is underway.  Pending the environmental review, and the Cayucos Advisory Council's recommendations to the County Planning Commission, the project will be reviewed by the County Planning Commissioners in a few months' time.  If the project is approved by the commissioners, the opponents can appeal to the County's Board of Supervisors and subsequently, to the State Coastal Commission.

Footnote: The Cayucos Advisory Coucil meeting is held every first Wednesday of the month at the Cayucos Vets Hall at 1900 hours.

Thank you for a first class fair article in your blog about Cayucos Del Mar project. CCC is not an anti-growth group.

Do you mind if I send the CCC webmaster the URL to your site for a possible link back. We are at 348 unique hits as of a few minutes ago.

Best regards,
